KUB Utility Setup

KUB — Knoxville Utilities Board — is the utility provider for most homes in Fort Sanders. All Swift leases require tenants to transfer utilities into their name at move-in. Here's how to get it done before you arrive.

What KUB Covers

KUB provides the following services for your home:

  • Electric
  • Water & Sewer
  • Stormwater
  • Fiber Internet — KUB also offers fiber internet service. It's a great value if you want to bundle everything through one provider.

How to Set Up Your KUB Account

Step 1: Go to KUB's Website

Head to kub.org and navigate to the Start Service section.

Step 2: Have Your Information Ready

You'll need:

  • Your new address
  • Your move-in date
  • Your Social Security number — or a deposit may be required
  • A valid photo ID
  • Your contact information

Step 3: Submit Your Application

You can start service online at kub.org or call KUB directly at 865-524-2911. Service can typically be set up a few days in advance of your move-in date — don't wait until the last minute.

Step 4: Confirm Your Start Date

Make sure your service start date lines up with your move-in date. You don't want to arrive to a home with no power or water.

When to Set It Up

As soon as you know your move-in date — ideally at least a week out. KUB is generally quick to process new accounts but giving yourself a buffer avoids any gaps in service.

Splitting Utilities With Housemates

If multiple people are sharing the bill, decide upfront how you're handling it. A few common approaches:

  • One person's name on the account — they collect from housemates each month
  • Venmo or a shared expense app — Splitwise is popular for group houses

Whatever you decide, get aligned with your housemates before bills start arriving.
